Moving house in Morocco: how to prepare and agree the price

4 min read · Updated

Moving is one of the services where what the client expects and what happens differ most: the price is set on the phone for "a small flat", then on the day there is a fourth floor with no lift and a wardrobe that will not fit through the door. The more precise your description, the more honest the offer.

How the price is worked out

An hourly price suits a small move within the neighbourhood; a fixed price protects the client if the job drags on, but needs a precise description: number of rooms, floors, whether there is a lift, the biggest item. The legal minimum is the SMIG outside agriculture, 17.92 dirhams an hour since 1 January 2026, and the agricultural SMAG, 97.44 dirhams a day since 1 April 2026 (decree no. 2.25.983). Any hourly offer below 17.92 dirhams for non-agricultural work is therefore under the legal minimum. We have no official source on moving prices, so ask for more than one offer.

The truck and extras

  • The truck and driver are often charged separately from the porters; ask whether they are included.
  • Distance and fuel: say whether the price covers the same city or another.
  • Packing, dismantling and reassembly (beds, kitchens) can be a separate service.
  • An outside furniture lift if needed for upper floors.

Moving-day checklist

  • Empty cupboards of fragile items and pack them in numbered boxes.
  • Photograph valuable furniture beforehand to record its condition.
  • Reserve a parking spot for the truck and check door and stairway sizes.
  • Keep documents, keys and medicine with you, not on the truck.
  • Agree the price and duration in writing and pay at the end, after checking.
